Kournas Lake

Within walking distance of the villas Aspalathos is the only freshwater lake in Crete, Kournas Lake, in a beautiful landscape, lying in a valley among the hills, about 4 km from Georgioupolis.

This is the ideal destination for an afternoon stroll as it is set in a perfectly relaxed setting. The lake gets its power from the waters that descend from the mountains which are "trapped" from an underground flow to the sea. The environment of the lake is protected by "NATURA 2000". In this natural lake you can find ducks, eels, water snakes and a rare turtle species.

You can swim or rent pedalos enjoying a ride on the waters of the lake.
